Question paper specific instructions

Please read each of the following instructions carefully before attempting questions:

  1. There are 28 questions in all and all the questions are compulsory.
  2. The Number of marks carried by a question are indicated in the concerned note.
  3. Attempt of a part/question shall be counted in Sequential order. Unless struck off, attempt of a part/question shall be counted even if attempted partly. Any Page or portion of the page left blank in the Question-Cum-Answer Booklet (QCAB) must be clearly stuck off.
  4. Answers must be written in legible handwriting. Answers must be written in English or Hindi
  5. Re-valuation/ Re-checking of answer booklets of the candidate is not allowed.

Section I

Answer the Question No. 1 to 15 should not exceed 60 word in each case. Contents of answers are more important than their length. Each question carries 4 marks.

1. Discuss critically Lala Lajpat Roy views about ‘Swaraj’ .

2. Give an account of three important events of Governor General, Lord Ellenborough period.

3. Through light on the salient features of Pallava Temple Architecture Style.

4. Highlight the contribution of Rash Behari Bose in Indian freedom struggle.

5. Make a distinction between Bhabar and Terai ?

6. Write a geographical note on Balasore Train Accident.

7. Write a note on Sanjay Vidyut Pariyojana of Himachal Pradesh.

8. Development and democracy are like twins. Critically examine the statement.

9. What do you understand by the “Bottom Up” approach of development and administration what are its main features?

10. Development paradims must recognise that diversity of culture and geographies. In light of this statement what specific focus would you recommend for the development of a hill state like Himachal Pradesh? 

11. Underline the key challenges in the process of tribal development in Himachal Pradesh. 

12. How has the spread of mass media impacted the culture of Himachal, especially those inhabitants in the far of areas and the higher altitudes?

13. Status of women in India has been a critical theme for a long time in any development discourse. What is your assessment of gender development in Himachal Pradesh? Give reasons and cite facts to highlight your argument. 

14. Major traditional fairs and festivals of Himachal Pradesh undergone transformation. They are increasingly becoming distant from the folk traditions and heritage. How do you evaluate this change?

15. Discuss the recent government initiative in making the public spaces disability friendly and   suggest new ways of facilitating their movement and participation in public life.

Answer to question number 16 to 25 should not exceed 120 words in each case. Contents of the answers are more important than their length. Each question carries 8 marks.


16. Define the concept of “Decolonisation”. Also highlight the major reasons for Decolonisation.  

17. Write a critical note on “ Dandra Incident” of Bilaspur.

18. Discuss critically the relations between Sirmour and Mughals.

19. Throw light on the emergence of Kullu state and also highlight the reign of Raja Jagat Singh of Kullu.

20. Meghalaya Plateau is a part of Peninsular India. Elaborate it.

21. Describe the pattern of winter rainfall in India with a suitable example.

22. Which are the main industrial regions in Himachal Pradesh, which are the major Industries in them.

23. Write a detailed geographical essay on lesser Himalaya zone of Himachal Pradesh.

24. The thesis that the rural is about caste and urban is about class is too simplistic. Give your views on the statement.

25. Joint family system in Indian society even in the rural area is getting nuclear. What are the main reasons for this?


Section III

Answers to question number 26 to 28 should not exceed 400 words in each case. Contents of the answers are more important than their length. Each question carries 20 marks.

26. Corruption is like a termite that destroys the best of systems. What suggestions would you prescribe for abut and corruption free system in India?

27. Describe critically the major tribal uprising, civil rebellion and sepoy mutinies in India against the British rule during the Period 1757 to 1856 AD.

28. Describe air transportation in India and throw light on trunk air routes.
