1. Alexander's Invasion - 327 B.C.

✓In 327 B.C. Alexander crossed Afghanistan and by next year reached Taxila (now in Pakistan).

✓The Macedonian forces marched along the foothills of the Himalayas and one of the units of his forces reached as far in the east as the right bank of river Beas (Hyphasis) in September 326 B.C.

✓He was about to cross the river and subdue the fertile territory beyond, He therefore spoke to his army and tried to persuade them to march further into India but his trusted cavalry General Koinos pleaded with him to change his opinion and return, the men, he said, "longed to again see their parents, their wives and children, their homeland" since they had been away from home for eight years.

✓Deeply mortified but not willing to yield, Alexander shut himself in his tent for three days and after soothsayers had opined that the omens were not favourable for proceeding further, he gave in, raising twelve colossal altars to mark the limit and glory of his expedition.

✓On his way back to Macedonia he died on the way at Babylon at Afghanistan.
